Oxygen Esports on the Brink: Organization Set to Close Amid Staffing Layoffs
- 0
Oxygen Esports is reportedly on the verge of shutting down, marking another setback in the esports industry. Dexerto has revealed that the organization is in the midst of terminating all its employees, a decision made just three years after forming a partnership with Kraft Sports and Entertainment, the group owned by the New England Patriots.
Oxygen has had a presence in various competitive gaming arenas, featuring teams in Apex Legends, Rainbow Six: Siege, Valorant, Rocket League, and, notably, the Call of Duty League under the banner of the Boston Breach.
While the future remains uncertain for the affected players and teams, the report indicates that Oxygen's staff and players will lose access to their training facility at Patriot Place in Foxborough starting today (August 8). This change comes right before the organization's Call of Duty team departs for Saudi Arabia to participate in the Esports World Cup.
It appears that there may soon be an opportunity for another organization to acquire the CDL slot held by the Breach. Additionally, it is hoped that other teams will step in to recruit some of the players and staff who are being let go due to this significant development.
