This superbly vintage Metroidvania unveils an unexpected twist: a science fiction escapade set in World War II, battling monstrous Nazis within the enigmatic Bermuda Triangle
- 0
A certain type of action hero is required to lead an action game set in the Bermuda Triangle, where the objective is to defeat monstrous Nazis. Captain Chuck "Wolfhound" Rossetti appears to be an apt choice for this daunting task. The Captain is the protagonist of the soon-to-release Metroidvania-themed game Wolfhound. From what can be gathered, the game adheres completely to the retro bit aesthetic, including flamboyant character names.
The storyline unfolds with an "ominous, concealed island" in the Bermuda Triangle being used for dangerous Nazi trials that go awry. Rossetti is the one who is chosen to confront and neutralize the formidable Dr. Steiner and his army of mutants. Key features of the game suggest a classic feel - jetpacks, gravity boots, colossal arachnid bosses, and more.
Wolfhound is a 2D sidescrolling Metroidvania game with a pure retro vibe. It's the newest creation from Bit Kid, the developer behind Chasm, a partly procedural, Metroidvania-styled platformer that earned accolades some years back. Wolfhound's developers have pursued an original 8-bit experience down to each pixel.
Bit Kid’s founder and chief developer, James Petruzzi, expresses his admiration for vintage games and pixel art, saying he wanted to accurately represent the style of NES and 8-bit gaming. He also shared his intention of creating an authentic stylistic experience inclusive of an 8-bit color palette, 320x180 pixel resolution, and a soundtrack composed in Famitracker, a tool traditionally used by homebrewers for authentic NES music.
Even more noteworthy, developers from the popular Shantae series and Freedom Planet 2 were part of Wolfhound’s team. The retro soundtrack was scored by RushJet1, well-known for his work on Cave Story. Rossetti’s character is built to be a one-man force, and Bit Kid has certainly made its mark in the Metroidvania gaming world through its array of excellent contributions.
Fans can expect Wolfhound's release on Switch, PS5, and PC in 2025.
