PayPal and Venmo for iPhone to Integrate with Apple pay

If you use PayPal or Venmo, two of the most popular online payment systems in the U.S., and have an iPhone, soon you’ll benefit more from their synergy. The agreement Apple has signed with these payment systems will soon enable you to make payments using your PayPal or Venmo account from iPhone with a single tap.

The result of these efforts will be a part of Tap to Pay, a new payment technology introduced by Apple in February and launched in June 2022. It allows iPhone users to make payments online with Apple Pay just as easily as they do at a supermarket checkout. So, if you make a payment to a vendor who uses Venmo or PayPal, it will be as easy as using your regular credit card with Apple Tap to Pay. Payments from iPhone to iPhone are also supported; it’s the merchant’s responsibility to register these payments.

PayPal and Venmo, though, are not the first payment systems to make it to your Apple Wallet and become one-tap methods. Apple had announced its collaboration with Square, another payment system, before it made a deal with these two. So, whichever of these platforms you use, an iPhone will become your wallet for it sooner than you expect.

The feature will be available on iPhone XS/XS Max or newer models. The integration is also to appear on online stores accepting payments in these systems, which is sure to take more time but in the end make the system really ubiquitous. Finally, what will make PayPal and Venmo really versatile is the ability to add branded credit and debit cards to Apple Pay (so far, alas, in the US only). This means you’ll be able to make payments from your PayPal or Venmo accounts whenever Apple Pay is accepted.

Do you often use PayPal or Venmo? Do you think it will be a lot of improvement if you’re able to use these systems with Apple Pay? Tell us what you think about it in the comments!
