Game Freak Increased the Number of Pokémon to 1008

The Pokémon universe has been around for 26 years. During this time, the number of fans is constantly growing, and new products bring unusual creatures to the world. With the release of Pokémon Scarlet & Violet, the number of funny critters is now officially over 1000.

The previous generation consisted of 905 creatures. On November 18 this year, a new game in the popular franchise - Scarlet & Violet, was released, and increased the official Pokémon count to 1008 (not counting regional variants such as Wooper from the Paldea region). You can see the full list and characteristics of all creatures in the National Pokédex. Spoiler alert: the new Pokémon is named Gholdengo and is an evolutionary form of the ghost-type Gimminghoul that loves to play pranks on Paldean trainers and roams gold chests. This is a very unusual and fun option for 1000 Pokémon: Gholdengo's body looks like it's made of gold, and he loves to skateboard.

A very symbolic moment is that you can get this Pokemon after you collect 1000 coins. The developers endowed the new character with a sweet and friendly character. It's incredible that after so many years, fans of the franchise are able to catch, care for, trade, and fight so many types. Some of them are very similar to real animals and plants, and some, like Gholdengo, are more unusual. His appearance is the result of the combination of an inanimate object and a creature.

Of course, if you do not adhere to the official classification, the total number of Pokémon has long exceeded 1000. However, regional variants and gender types (except for Nidorino and Nidorina) are not considered separate species. We can only rejoice at such a significant number and collect as many Pokémon as possible.
