Exploring J.R.R Tolkien's Legacy in Lord of the Rings: Gollum

Developed by Daedalic Entertainment, Lord of the Rings: Gollum is an upcoming game based on J.R.R. Tolkien's works. Players will take on the role of the iconic character Gollum as he embarks on a stealth-focused journey through Middle-Earth. To make sure that Lord of the Rings: Gollum does justice to the beloved universe, Daedalic Entertainment released a dev diary video that provides insight into how the developers are approaching Tolkien's legacy.

To get ready for this ambitious project, the developers spent a lot of time studying Tolkien's works, watching the movie adaptations, and delving into the letters and notes written by the author. As such, they are supplementing the universe with locations and characters that weren't described in the original story.

The dev diary also gives us a sneak peek of the gameplay, which combines sneaking with RPG-style dialogues. During these conversations, players are able to help shape Gollum's inner struggle as a result of being corrupted by the One Ring.

The video also highlights the attention to detail that Daedalic Entertainment has put into the game. For example, the studio went to great lengths to make sure that Middle-Earth's iconic locations, such as Fangorn Forest, Shire, and Mordor, remain faithful to Tolkien's vision.

The studio also made sure to capture the unique atmosphere of the fantasy universe, filling it with mysterious creatures and powerful artifacts. Players are free to explore this new and vivid world however they want, as the game encourages creativity and experimentation.

Overall, although the release date of Lord of the Rings: Gollum is yet to be announced, its developers have managed to fill the game with great respect for J.R.R. Tolkien's legacy. This is impressive, considering that the game is faithful to the original story while also introducing new locations and characters. As such, fans of Tolkien's work can look forward to exploring a vast, rich, and living world that brings his universe to life.
